What this calculator answers
On a ₹15,00,000 salary under the new regime for FY2025-26, tax works out to about ₹97,500 after the ₹75,000 standard deduction and 4% cess; the same salary under the old regime with the calculator's default deductions is about ₹2,57,400. Enter your income and deductions to compare both regimes side by side.
How it is calculated
Both regimes are computed slab by slab. The new regime applies the FY2025-26 slabs (nil to ₹4L, then 5/10/15/20/25/30%), the ₹75,000 standard deduction, the 87A rebate that zeroes tax up to ₹12 lakh of taxable income with marginal relief, and 4% cess. The old regime applies its own slabs (nil to ₹2.5L, 5/20/30%), the ₹50,000 standard deduction, the ₹5 lakh rebate and section-wise caps for 80C, 80CCD(1B), 80D, 80E, 80TTA/80TTB, 24(b), HRA and other deductions.
Salaried defaults with the standard deduction applied. The old-regime comparison uses the calculator's default deductions, so change them to match your own claims.
Common questions
How does the ₹12 lakh rebate work?
If taxable income after the standard deduction is ₹12 lakh or less, the 87A rebate cancels the slab tax. Just above it, marginal relief caps tax at the income above ₹12 lakh so the jump is gradual instead of sudden.
Which deductions survive in the new regime?
The ₹75,000 standard deduction for salaried taxpayers and an employer NPS contribution under 80CCD(2). 80C, 80D and HRA are not allowed, which is why the old regime only wins when deductions are large.
Which regime should I choose?
Both totals are shown, along with the extra old-regime deductions that would be needed to match the new regime at your income. Compare that break-even figure with what you can actually claim.
