What this calculator answers

₹10,000 a month for 25 years at a 10% return builds about ₹1.33 crore; with 40% going to an annuity the lump sum is about ₹79.61 lakh, the annuity corpus about ₹53.07 lakh and the estimated monthly pension about ₹30,959. Enter your contribution, return and annuity share to see the split.

How it is calculated

Contributions compound monthly at one-twelfth of the expected return. The corpus is then split at the annuity percentage you choose, and the monthly pension is the annuity corpus × the annuity rate ÷ 12.

A 7% annuity rate is assumed, and both the annuity share and the return are adjustable. NPS returns are market-linked and the annuity pension is taxable as salary.

Common questions

How much of the corpus must buy an annuity?

The slider defaults to 40% and can be set from 20% upward. Exit norms eased in December 2025 allow up to 80% as lump sum, but only 60% is tax-free — the extra 20% is taxed at your slab.

Is the NPS corpus tax-free?

Not entirely. The lump sum up to 60% is tax-free under Section 10(12A), while the annuity pension is taxable as salary, so the pension is shown separately from the corpus.

What extra deduction does NPS give?

A contribution under 80CCD(1B) is allowed up to ₹50,000 over and above the ₹1.5 lakh 80C cap, in the old regime only — the new regime allows just the employer contribution under 80CCD(2).
