Who is this guide for?

This guide is for traders who open and close positions within the same trading session and care about per-order brokerage, execution speed and intraday charting.

Intraday profitability is mostly cost control: flat ~₹20/order brokerage plus STT (0.025% sell side), exchange, GST and stamp on every leg. The ranking weights low intraday fees and trader-grade platforms.

The break-even maths is unforgiving at small size. A ₹10,000 intraday trade paying ₹20 per leg plus roughly ₹15–25 in statutory charges needs about a 0.5–0.6% favourable move just to break even — and that doubles if you use leverage and pay margin interest. This is why position sizing matters more than broker choice: the cheapest broker in this table still can't make a ₹5,000 scalp profitable.

Before scaling up, run your typical trade through the full brokerage calculator to see the break-even move — most beginners underestimate it.

The true cost of intraday trading — beyond brokerage

  • Brokerage per order, per leg — flat ₹20 or less at every broker in this table
  • STT at 0.025% on the sell side only — lower than delivery, but paid on every round-trip
  • Exchange transaction charges plus SEBI fees on turnover — identical everywhere
  • GST at 18% on brokerage plus exchange charges
  • Stamp duty on the buy side — small, identical everywhere
  • Square-off and call-and-trade charges — broker-specific extras that punish missed auto-square-offs
  • Margin interest — if you carry leveraged positions, this dwarfs brokerage; confirm rates before trading

Our take

For intraday, the shortlist is really about execution, not price — every broker in this table charges a flat ₹20 or less per order, so the remaining differences are charting speed, downtime record and square-off policies. Brokers on percentage plans are excluded because their cost scales with your order size; if you trade tiny (a few thousand rupees), verify their slabs separately. Never pick an intraday broker on brokerage alone without checking its margin square-off timings and charges.

How we compare brokers

Every broker is scored by the same transparent scorer as the find-my-broker quiz — editorial rating plus persona fit over live fee data. The comparison for this guide considers:

  • Intraday brokerage (effective ₹ at a ₹50k order size)
  • Platform score (execution, charting, reliability)
  • Editorial rating

Labels like “lowest” are computed from the fee figures in the table above — never assigned by hand. Verify pricing on the official site before opening an account.

FAQs

What matters most in an intraday broker?

Low flat per-order brokerage, fast execution with minimal downtime, good charting, and sensible margin policies.

How much do charges eat into intraday profits?

Often ₹40–60+ per round-trip order all-in. On small trades that can exceed the profit — size positions so charges stay under ~10% of expected gain.

What charges should I compare before choosing a broker?

Intraday brokerage per order, STT, exchange transaction charges, SEBI fees, GST, stamp duty and any square-off or call-and-trade charges.
